The rapid adoption of electric vehicles incentivised by the Government’s successful Clean Car discount program and our national commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable future is visible to us all.
In the past year, almost 1 out of 5 new cars registered in NZ were battery-electric or plug-in hybrid.
As of the end of August 2023, there are over 60,000 fully electric light vehicles and over 25,000 plug-in hybrids.
Today, New Zealand’s light vehicle fleet is more than 12% hybrid + battery electric.
This paints a strong picture that Kiwi’s are committed to change. And that New Zealand businesses are right behind this initiative too.

Be a part of a collective effort to reduce our carbon footprint.
Reduce their dependency on fossil fuels, which are becoming ever more expensive.
However, there’s a huge roadblock to convincing the broader public that purchasing an EV is a viable option. For New Zealand’s fleet of EVs to reach the majority, we need them to be confident that charging their EV is as easy as fuel.
As of August 2022, New Zealand has just 340 public chargers for electric vehicles, according to the NZTA’s helpful map, up from just 20 at the end of 2016. Across Aotearoa, there’s at least one charging station every 75 kilometres of state highway.
The customer experience, though, is one of anxiety and frustration.
Too often, a charge point is unavailable, in use, or offline.
Charge Points are not where customers need them.
